Lesley Kane

Art Director, Senior Artist

As well as working in her studios, Lesley enjoys organising, managing and participating in a variety of workshops and public art projects. She is an award-winning artist with an impressive history of experience to be proud of. To see her CV, please visit her website here.

Lesley created “Shipwrecked” in the 2022 Keswick Island Art Trail which is located on Basil Bay Beach.

Eva Browne-Paterson

Project Coordinator, Mid-Career Artist

As well as promoting Keswick Island for the past 16 years, Eva is a published author and illustrator of the “Island Critters” 4-book children’s series. She also enjoys photography and graphic design and recently launched an exclusive online store at Visit Keswick Island.com.au. She has started writing “Memoirs of Keswick Island” and has extensive marketing & event management experience.

Eva created “Tale of the Whales” in collaboration with her husband Brian which is located next to the Keswick Kiosk.

Lyn Kane

Mid-Career Artist

Lyn has an abundance of creativity and creates artworks from timber, paper, materials or anything in-between. A seasoned exhibitor for over 15 years, Lyn has shown at Gargett Gallery, Arthouse Gallery, Mackay Regional Botanic Gardens and Artspace Markets.

Lyn created “Kaleidoscope” in the art trail which is located mid-way on Peter Berck Drive.

Brian Browne-Paterson

Emerging Artist

From an early age, Brian had an interest in artistic endeavours including model plane building, painting, ceramics and poetry. He won several art awards as a teenager but family life got in the way of art for most of his life. He enjoyed the workshops and utilising his welding skills during this project, and looks forward to expanding his creative side further in years to come.

Brian created “Tale of the Whales” in collaboration with his wife Eva which is located next to the Keswick Kiosk.

Julie Willis

Emerging Artist

A proud Anaiwan woman, Julie is attracted to the symbolism of Australian indigenous arts. The vast palette of colours, the methods used to weave stories into artworks and the use of natural fibres and techniques stimulates her desire to learn new skills such as string art and weaving.

Julie created “Coral Garden” in collaboration with Valerie McGrow, located on the Village Green.

Karen Cooke

Emerging Artist

Artistically inclined most of her life, Karen has innate vision and excels at with repurposing flotsam and jetsom, shells, driftwood and even old piano parts into beautiful, unique artworks. She is a creative painter and jewellery maker and has a natural flair for making pottery, ceramics, costumes and decorating. Karen has been actively selling property on Keswick Island for 20+ years.

Karen created “Kraken” located on the rock in the water at the NW end of Basil Bay.

Leigh Wilson

Emerging Artist

Having always had an interest in the arts, Leigh has dabbled in a variety of techniques over the years including painting, drawing, screen printing and silk painting. She enjoys the challenge of creating wearable designs and is keen to explore using locally sourced natural materials to create fabric dyes. Leigh is an early childhood teacher in Mackay.

Leigh created “Just Breezin'” located in the trees below the road along Basil Bay.

Suzanne McDonald

Emerging Artist

Suzanne has had an interest in many art forms including dance, music, crafts and bark weaving. In her earlier year, she branched out into lead lighting, mosaics, woodwork, painting and firing tiles. She recently started painting watercolours using the surroundings on Keswick Island for inspiration.

Suzanne created “Flee to the Sea'” located in the trees below the Beach Hut on Basil Bay.

Valerie McGrow

Emerging Artist

Valerie has had a diverse array of artistic pursuits including photography, stained glass, calligraphy, pressed flowers, jewellery making, macrame, embroidery and crocheting amigurumi toys, blankets and clothing. She is very creative when it comes to making something new and interesting.

Valerie created “Coral Garden” in collaboration with Julie Willis which is located on the Village Green near Basil Bay.

Glenda Hobdell

Artist’s Mentor

As a studio artist and arts education lecturer at CQU, we were extremely fortunate to have Glenda’s extensive skill set and impressive knowledge base of experience behind us. Although extremely busy, she made herself available to all of the artists for any questions or guidance required along the way and was most positive and encouraging. Glenda was an absolute joy to work with during the concept development, creation and installation stages of the Keswick Island Art Trail project. More info »

Lalune Croker

Professional Workshop Tutor

With 20+ years of art industry experience in tutoring, design, installation and project management, Lalune held two successful professional workshops for our artists on Keswick Island during the concept development stage. Her passion for community arts was instrumental in bringing our ideas to fruition with invaluable installation technique advice.

Her workshops covered the making of the community artworks “Flowers of the Sea” & “Honey to the Bees” located in the middle of the art trail. More info »
